Series Names |
Starting with the 2018 season, I started naming many of the series after people.
Tom Divoll and John Reilly
The original designers of Speed Circuit as published by 3M in 1971.
Juan Manuel Fangio
Perhaps the greatest F1 driver of all time. He won 5 championships in the 1950s including 4 in a row from 1954 - 1957. It would take nearly 50 years before Michael Schumacher would break that record.
Alberto Ascari
Overshadowed by Fangio, Ascari won the title in 1952 and 1953 and won an amazing 68% of races when his car was not retired for mechanical reasons -- the most of any driver in history.
Jim Clark
Clark was on pole in almost 1/2 of his races and won more than a 1/3 of all races he entered. He won the title in 1963 and 1965.
Stirling Moss
Moss was probably the best driver in F1 history who never won a championship. Despite 16 race wins between 1951 and 1961 -- the 2nd most behind Fangio at the time of Moss' retirement.
Lewis Hamilton
Hamilton has won the most races and titles (7) of any driver in history and is still racing. Comparing modern drivers with drivers from the early days of F1 is fraught but Hamilton has won nearly 40% of races when his car was not retired for mechanical reasons which is comporable to other greats from the 70s and on.
